Burnham FC (A) Match Preview

Burnham FC vs Punjab United, Isuzu FA Vase Third Round, The 1878 Stadium, Saturday 6th December 2025, 3:00PM KO

Saturday will be a special day for the club and one of the biggest games in our history as we're on the road as we head to Burnham to take on Burnham FC looking to continue our furthest ever run in the Isuzu FA Vase.

Since our second round victory against Tadley Calleva, Punjab have only lost one game as Rusthall defeated The Jabs 4-2. Wins against Hollands & Blair and Chislehurst Glebe with a penalty win against Greenways puts Punjab into good spirits coming into this game, hoping they can continue their fairytale run.

Punjab United 3-1 Wick FC - Isuzu FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round

Punjab United 1-0 Wembley FC - Isuzu FA Vase 1st Round

Burnham FC 3-1 Spelthorne Sports - Isuzu FA Vase 1st Round

Hythe Town 1-1 (3-4) Burnham FC - Isuzu FA Vase 2nd Round

This is the first time that Punjab has played Burnham FC so let's dive a bit into who they are...

Our Opponents:

Burnham FC currently compete in the Combined Counties Premier Division North, which is the 9th tier of English Football. They currently sit 6th with 11 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses.

In their last five games they have only won two matches at home to British Airways and a win on pens in the FA Vase Second Round against Hythe Town. A defeat against Wycombe Wanderers and two recent draws against Broadfields United and Virginia Water means that tomorrow will be a close encounter.

History:

Founded in 1878, Burnham Football Club is the second-oldest club in Buckinghamshire. In their early years they competed, with considerable success, across several leagues before joining the Great Western Combination in 1948.

In 1964 they moved into the Wycombe Combination and later spent the 1970/71 season in the Reading Combination. The club was elected to the Hellenic League in 1971, and in 1975/76 they achieved a notable double by winning both the Premier Division and the League Cup. They also finished as runners-up in the League Cup on two other occasions.

The 2012–2013 season stands as the most successful period in the club’s history. Their First Team won the Evo-Stik League Southern Division One Central title, earning promotion to the newly sponsored Calor League Premier Division. At the same time, their Reserve Team captured the UHLSPORT Hellenic League Division Two East championship at the first attempt, securing promotion to Division One East - where they competed against many of the sides the First Team had faced the previous season.

Burnham have also enjoyed memorable cup runs. They reached the Quarter-Finals of the FA Vase in 1977/78 and progressed to the Semi-Finals in 1982/83, losing 4–2 on aggregate to Halesowen Town in front of a club-record home attendance of 2,400. They have twice reached the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round and, in 2005/06, reached the First Round Proper for the first time, ultimately losing at home to Aldershot Town.

In the FA Trophy, they advanced to the Fourth Round (the last 16) in 1999/2000, losing to Scarborough in a replay after a hard-earned 1–1 draw at The Gore. They have twice reached the Semi-Finals of the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup, both times falling to Chesham United. More recently, on 28 February 2024, they faced Reading FC in the quarter-finals of the same competition at the 1878 Stadium, losing 0–2.

On 22 May 2024, Burnham celebrated fresh silverware by defeating Virginia Water 2–1 at Ascot United’s Racecourse Ground to win the 2023/24 Combined Counties Football League / Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup.

The club now competes in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League Premier Division North.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the newly renamed 1878 Stadium underwent major refurbishment. This allowed chairman Glenn Skivington to pursue one of his key aims: strengthening relationships with local clubs and the surrounding community. As a result, more teams and organisations now use Burnham’s state-of-the-art, FIFA-certified 3G pitch, completed in July 2021.
