Punjab United are pleased to confirm that the Bushell brothers, Owen and Wayne will be staying at the club for the 2024/25 season.
They both joined the club for the U23's in the 2022-23 season where they excelled so much that both got opportunities with the first team during that season. Wayne made his first team debut in a 4-1 defeat to Hollands & Blair while Owen got his opportunity against K Sports in a 3-1 win. In the 2023-24 season, both players have went on to make multiple starts with Owen making 19 appearances and Wayne making 39 appearances in all competitions. They have also had recent success with their Sunday League side Avery Hill who have respectively been promoted to the Premier Division as well as winning 2 cups in the past two seasons.
Owen Bushell said, "It’s a pleasure to stay with this club, going forward it’s very clear the ambitions this club has and I want to be apart of that. There’s no reason with the squad we have why we can’t go on to get promotion. I can’t thank the management team enough for the opportunities I’ve been given and especially working with Steve Waite who’s helped me come so far. Also it’s a real pleasure to be playing with my brother Wayne, it was always a dream to be at a good standard with him and he’s a great player to play with. We are at a very good club who treats us and our family well and it helps to have two parents who follow and support us everywhere. Now it’s time to recharge and go again for the new season, can not wait to get started and hopefully help bring something to the team to push on for promotion. One special club, bring on the new season, Up the Punjab!"
Wayne Bushell expressed his excitement about staying for the 2024/25 season, stating, "I'm thrilled to remain with a club that has high expectations. As a team, there's no reason why we can't achieve our goals. I'm incredibly grateful to the management team for the opportunities they've given me, especially Chipie, who gave me my first team debut. Playing alongside my brother Owen is a dream come true; he's a fantastic player and it's a joy to be on the field with him. We're at a wonderful club that treats us and our family exceptionally well, and having supportive parents who follow us everywhere is a huge help. Now it's time to recharge and gear up for the new season. I can't wait to get started and hopefully contribute to pushing the team towards promotion. This is a special club, bring on the new season, Up the Punjab!"
Manager - Chipie Sian: "In the 2022-23 season, I watched the U23's quite a few times and I was very impressed by their performances, attitude and desire on the pitch, For me it was a no brainer, we promoted them to the first team squad and since then I have never looked back, both players have provided quality performances for the club. With age on their side they have lots of potential to develop, grow and improve as players, I can see both of them going far, hopefully with us."
