Faversham Town (A) Match Preview

Writer: Punjab UnitedPunjab United

Faversham Town vs Punjab United, SCEFL Premier Division, Aquatherm Stadium, Saturday 1st March 2025, 3:00pm Kick-Off

After the cancellation of the Tunbridge Wells game, Punjab united now look towards their next opponent Faversham Town who currently sit 2nd place in the table. A win would cement a massive statement to the league that Punjab can compete with the teams with more money than them.

Faversham have gone unbeaten in their last 3 games, their biggest win being 4-0 against Tunbridge Wells on the 15th of February. Tashi-Jay Kwayie has scored over 27 goals this season, and currently holds the golden boot spot in the Premier Division with 23 goals. He is unlike any striker Punjab has had to face in recent matches, can the Punjab back line be the one to finally slow Tashi down? Talking of back lines, Faversham arguably have the best backline in the league, with a positive goal difference of +47, the highest in the league.

Faversham currently hold the 2nd highest amount of home points gained, with 34. However, Punjab United do hold a respectable away performance point tally, with 24 points from all away matches.

While it might seem the odds are stacked against Punjab going into this game, considering Faversham can be seen as the best team in the league, anything can happen in a game of football, and here at Punjab, we love an underdog story.

Here’s all the stats that Punjab fans need to know ahead of the game…

Team and Match Stats:

  • Faversham striker, Tashi-Jay Kwayie currently holds the Golden Boot position in the Premier Division.

  • Punjab have the 4th best away record in the league.

Faversham Town F.C. are a semi-professional football club competing in the Southern Counties East Football League (SCEFL), with U23s development, FTFC post 16 Football Academy and with youth teams at all ages. We also run girls’ teams, disability teams and a powerchair team. Faversham Town are the only club in the country other than England to boast a Three Lions badge, proudly representing the town crest.

Growing success in the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s culminated in a 2000 Kent League Challenge Cup victory, but in 2003 the club collapsed amid financial difficulties. The stadium became derelict and vandalised, but a strong desire by supporters and businessmen in the town to save their local team led to its revival in 2005. Volunteers hacked back shoulder-high grass and renovated the stands, and the club rose from the ashes.

Town won promotion to the Kent League in the first season back in 2005/06. In 2010 they were crowned champions and took the massive step up to the semi-professional Isthmian League, the highest level in the club’s long history, where they competed until relegation to the SCEFL after the 2022/23 season.
