Punjab United's FA Cup journey begins in the Extra Preliminary Round where they take on Combined Counties Premier Side Horley Town, looking to progress to the next round and equal their best run in the FA Cup.
Punjab make the hour journey to Surrey to take Horley on. Since Punjab drew 2-2 with Bearsted, we announced the signing of attacking winger Youssouf Bamba who will be an attacking threat for us.
We spoke to manager and chairman Chipie Sian before our FA Cup tie and spoke to him about how last Saturday went and the upcoming FA Cup match against Horley Town.
Chipie Sian - "Last Saturday we was on home turf as we took on Bearsted FC. Coming into the game we knew that just like every other team in the league, they are a good side and we'd have to be at our best if we wanted to win. We went two goals up before half time with loanee Alfie Bloomfield scoring from the rebound of Steve Ratcliff shot and a penalty by Chris Edwards which was won by Arun Suman. In the second half, Bearsted got two goals back in the last 10 minutes and it ended in a draw. Overall it was a game where we should have won being two goals up and I disappointed in the two goals we conceded. However, we move to our next game in the FA Cup."
"In the FA Cup, we are on the road as we take on Horley Town in the Extra Preliminary Round this Saturday and the winner will take on AFC Croydon Athletic or Sutton Athletic at home. Every team loves the FA Cup as anything can happen. We've looked at a few videos of how Horley play but it's down to us as a team being better on the day. We previously played them in the FA Vase in the 2020/21 season where we lost in the last minute 3-2."
"The FA Cup means a lot to the club. Having had the actual trophy at the ground a few years ago was a dream come true. It was also amazing to have our game telivised live on BBC. We've always had high aspirations of going far in the cup and in our history we've only got to the Preliminary Round. It would be amazing if we could make it to the 1st Qualifying Round but we need to take each game one at a time."
"We'd like to see as many Punjab fans at the game on Saturday cheering us on and hopefully the boys will be able to repay you with a great result."
