Rayners Lane (A) Match Preview

Updated: 23 hours ago

Rayners Lane vs Punjab United, Pre-Season Friendly, Tithe Farm Sports & Social Club, Saturday 5th July 2025, 3PM KO

Punjab are coming off an amazing 3-0 victory against Greenways at Steve Cook Stadium with Ashley Probets, Jayden Hussain and Alife Moynes getting themselves onto the

scoresheet. There were plenty of positives that came out of Tuesdays game with many trialists given the opportunity to take the field, and many did not disappoint with the manager and fans alike expecting more to shine on Saturday.

Our Opposition:

In terms of our opposition for Saturday, Punjab will be taking a journey up to London to the

home ground of Rayners Lane, located in Harrow. Rayners Lane plays in the Southern

League Division One in the central region. They are managed by Scott Patmore; their

chairman is Pete Singh.

The match is being dubbed the ‘’Battle of the Sikh Chairman’’. Pete Singh is the chairman of Rayner's Lane who has played a pivotal role in the club’s rise through the football pyramid, overseeing their recent promotion to the Southern League Division One Central.

Known for his hands-on leadership style, Pete Singh has spearheaded significant

infrastructure improvements at the club’s Tithe Farm ground, including the installation of a

modern 3G pitch, new floodlights, and a refurbished clubhouse. Beyond matchday

responsibilities, he’s actively involved in governance, compliance, and safeguarding,

working closely with other board members to ensure the club runs to professional

standards. Under his chairmanship, Rayner's Lane has transformed from a grassroots side

into one of the most ambitious non-league clubs in London, gaining both silverware and

community support along the way.

Last season, Rayner's Lane finished in the middle of the pack sitting in 11th place with 61

points. They were in the top 4 for goals scored, but were 18th place in terms of goals

conceded, perhaps hinting at some holes in their defensive play, which could always be

capitalised on.

History:

Founded in 1933 in Harrow, Middlesex, Rayners Lane started as a local grassroots team

before entering the Spartan League in the 1960s. In the late 1970s they moved to the

Hellenic League, earning promotion to the Premier Division in 1982–83, though they later

dropped back down due to inadequate floodlights. Over the years they played in the

Middlesex and Chiltonian Leagues, eventually winning the Hellenic Division One East title

again in 2012–13 but were unable to move up because of ground‑quality issues. A major

transformation began in 2018–19, when the club upgraded the Tithe Farm ground with a 3G

pitch and new clubhouse and officially opened in October 2019. T Under the leadership of

chairman Pete Singh, Rayner's Lane won the Middlesex Premier Cup in 2023 and the

Middlesex Senior Cup in 2024, while also achieving back-to-back promotions that brought

them into Step 4 of the football pyramid for the first time in their history. Their rise reflects

both ambition and commitment to long-term growth, with the club now seen as a rising

name in London’s non-league football scene.
