Whitstable Town (N) Match Preview

Punjab United vs Whitstable Town, Kent Senior Trophy Final, The Gallagher Stadium, Sunday 19th April 2026, 3:00pm Kick-Off

Punjab United are at the Gallagher Stadium tomorrow afternoon as they take on league winners Whitstable Town in the Kent Senior Trophy final. Coming into this match, Punjab have been on a three game winning run with two convincing 3-0 wins away to Sutton Athletic and at home to Erith & Belvedere, and also a 2-1 win at home to playoff chasing Fisher FC. A volley from Lee Bird and a header from Harry Ottaway secured the three points and puts Punjab ever so closer to the playoffs.

This weekend’s Kent Senior Trophy Final will mark the third meeting of the season between Punjab United and Whitstable Town, with both previous encounters proving to be closely contested affairs.

Punjab will be aiming to reverse their fortunes after narrow defeats in the league, with the opening fixture at Whitstable ending 2-1, before the return match was decided by a late goal in another tight contest.

Despite those results, Punjab United remain firmly in the promotion picture. Currently just outside the playoff positions, they head into the final weeks of the season knowing that a strong finish could still secure a place in the end-of-season playoffs and a chance to reach the Isthmian League.

Sunday’s final therefore presents a significant opportunity for Punjab United, not only to lift silverware, but also to make a statement against familiar opposition in what is expected to be another competitive and hard-fought encounter.

Whitstable Town head into the Kent Senior Trophy Final with a long history in the competition, making their eighth appearance. Of their previous seven finals, they have lifted the trophy on three occasions and will be aiming to add a fourth this weekend.

Punjab United, by contrast, are preparing for just their second appearance in the final, but made a huge statement in their first, recording a dominant 6-0 victory over Deal Town in the 2022-23 final.

Both sides come into the game in excellent form, setting up what promises to be a highly competitive contest. Whitstable have been consistent throughout the season, losing just once in the league since September, while Punjab United arrive in strong form of their own, having won their last five matches.

Our Opponents:

Whitstable Town ended their season with promotion from the SCEFL Premier by being champions and will play in the Isthmian South East Division (Step 4) next season.

They've only lost two games in the last 13 matches in all competitions and only two league defeats in their past 28 matches. 47 of their goals this season have come from the duo of Javaun Splatt and Bradley Schafer and they will two of many players to look out for.

History:

Whitstable Town Football Club, set up in 1885, is one of Kent’s oldest and most historic

non-league sides. The club has played at The Belmont Ground since 1888 and is

affectionately known as “The Oystermen.” Over the decades, Whitstable have

competed in various regional leagues, including the original Kent League and later the

Isthmian League, where they enjoyed some of their best finishes in the 2010s. A major

milestone came in 2025 when they won the FA Vase at Wembley, defeating AFC

Whyteleafe 2–1 in a historic triumph. Now playing in the Southern Counties East League

Premier Division, Whitstable continue to grow under manager Jamie Coyle, after just recently securing the league title.
